My business is called Lighthouse Book Coaching ~ because when we're writing, we're submerged in our stories, and when we feel lost at sea, a coach isn't just an editor ~ they're a mentor and cheerleader who lights a path forward.

The Portal Package

Introductory package
(first-time clients only)

This is a great way to try out professional book coaching and work with me at a reduced rate.

I’ll review your pitch and book blueprint as well as the first chapter of your book (up to 15 pages) and send you some in-line notes, an edit letter identifying your next steps, and any resources or recommendations I think you'll find helpful, then we’ll have a zoom call to discuss the feedback. $150

*If your first chapter is longer than 15 pages, price can be adjusted.

The Deeper Dive Package

You've started your book and need some guidance and feedback to see clearly what's working and what isn't ~ and to get on a path that feels right for your story.

This package is offered at two price points. In both you’ll get everything offered in the introductory package, plus:

For review of your first 50 pages (to the end of a chapter), with in-line notes, an edit letter, and a zoom call to discuss and answer your questions: $800

The same package is also offered with review of your entire book. $2500

By-the-wind Sailor
Coaching Package

This package offers ongoing support and accountability. Submit short stories, chapters/scenes, or material that fleshes out your story/characters. We'll work together throughout.

There is a three-month minimum required to sign up for this package.

Start with a pitch and blueprint or with pages (your choice), and submit up to 20 pages for each check in. You’ll get in-line notes, an edit letter, and a zoom call to discuss the feedback and answer your questions:

20 pages 1ce a month: $350
20 pages 2ce a month: $700

Why choose me as your editor/book coach?

I've been writing speculative fiction for more than fifteen years!

My books are published with a "Big 5" publisher ~ and while I can't promise you an agent or publishing contract (no one can), insight can help.

I've worked as an editor, critique partner, and mentor for all kinds of writers (published and unpublished) to help improve their stories.

I was a mentor (in the MG reader category) for three years with the (now retired) global writing contest "Pitch Wars."

I have an MA in literature (and a second BS in environmental studies).

I'm a proud Author Accelerator certified book coach, and a member of: The Science Fiction Fantasy Writers Association (where I serve on the MG/YA steering committee), The Author's Guild, The Pacific Northwest Writer's Association, The Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, The Romance Writers of America, and The Mythopoeic Society. In other words, I’m deeply engaged with the writing community—and have been for many years.

I'm a values-forward editor and an unapologetic progressive. I'm an LGBTQA+ ally (and love queer stories, btw). I believe in science and climate change, that Black Lives Matter, that women's rights and transgender rights are human rights, that no book should be banned, and that we need diverse books in all our communities. I will call out assumptions in your work (and my own) when I see them.
